| "Lead a
Natural Life"
"Our birthright is to be young and healthy
always; nobody needs to feel sick or old. Nature is ready to
keep you young for a hundred years, until the very last breath
of your life. But we must do our part by observing the laws of
Nature. So let us always take care not to tax our systems. For
example, most of us wear glasses; when we overstrain our eyes,
we lose the eyesight very quickly. So we must be very, very
careful, not just with the eyes, but in all areas. That's why
most of the great thinkers ask us to go back to nature. As far
as possible, lead a natural life, a simple life. Don't tax your
brain, don't tax your mind, don't tax your system with all this
overloading. Take it easy, but not lazy.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"Keep Your Battery Charged"
"Your body is a magnet. You are a divine being, and the
divine charge is there within you. But that magnetism will be
lost through wrong acts, wrong thoughts, wrong habits. If you go
on discharging your battery, however much the nature tries to
charge it, the battery will always be weak. You will put out a
feeble light. But if the battery is fully charged, the minute
you touch the starter, the engine will rise up. You can simply
jump with joy with such a lot of energy in your system. Every
cell will dance with joy. So you should know both sides: how to
charge your battery well, and how to stop the discharging - both
are necessary.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"Yoga in Everything You Do"
"Yoga means perfection in action. When you do something, do
it with one hundred percent of the mind. Don't do it half way.
Whatever you do, do it with full concentration, with your whole
mind. That is Yoga. Yoga doesn't mean that you just go into a
corner, sit with spine erect and then do some japa or some
breathing alone. My Yoga is everything. Whatever you do should
be Yoga. When you start doing something, do only that, one
hundred percent. Yogaha karmasu kaushalam, perfection in action
is Yoga. Anything and everything that you do can become a Yogic
act that way.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"Be a Yogi, Be At Ease"
"If anybody says, 'Oh, I am trying hard to become a yogi,' I
would say to that person, 'You will never become a yogi.' One
cannot become a yogi by trying hard. Simply, that's not Yoga.
Yoga means to retain your tranquility always. Whatever may come,
think that it is a part of the Divine Will, the Cosmic Law. That
way, you won't lose your peace. Every day thousands and
thousands of people may die in an earthquake, millions die from
disease or accidents, millionaires become paupers. We see such
things happening every day. So what is there to wonder about? We
need to accept things: 'Well, that's the world; if it has to
happen, let it happen.' Just be at ease. Then, if there is
something to do, you will automatically do the right thing.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"Become an Instrument"
"Nothing belongs to us; we haven't brought anything with us
when we came and we are not going to take anything with us when
we go. That's why all the religions say, in different ways, be
detached, desire nothing, give everything in the name of the
Lord, become an instrument in the hands of the Lord, then you
are free. Do everything as God's work. Even when you look after
your own family, you should feel that it is not your family; you
call them your family, but they have been given by God to be
looked after by you. They are not yours. Temporarily they are
given to you to be looked after. If we lead such a life, we will
be happy always.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"Let Yourself Rest"
"When you go to sleep, you should feel, 'I am here to sleep
and not to think of anything else. I have been thinking
throughout the whole day. Now I don't want to think of anything,
I am just going to rest. I won't invite any other thoughts. Let
my mind go to sleep.' With that affirmation, lie down. Still, if
you should wake up in the night, repeat some holy words or
prayers, until you go to sleep again. You will get the best
sleep possible, without any pills-because pills can never
produce sleep, they simply make you unconscious. When you sleep
with pills, you get up with ills.
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."
"A Dedicated Soul"
"Unending peace will come only to a dedicated person, a
dedicated soul, ready to give and give and give. You can never
become poor by giving; on the other hand, you will become richer
and richer. By living that way, our minds will be always light
and pure. Others will feel that. There's no advertisement
necessary for such a person; just by seeing you, people will
feel that. That is the real nirvana or kaivalya,
wherein you get the unalloyed peace that passes understanding.
And that is the goal of Yoga. That is what real happiness is. It
is not the birthright of one sect or creed, it is everybody's
"God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi."

“Uma mente calma e limpa"
“Yoga
and meditation are not two different things. They are one and the
same, both practiced with the goal of calming the mind. Yoga begins
with yama and niyama—the restraints and ethical
principles of Yoga, which clean the mind. You can never calm the
mind without first cleaning it. That means if any thought, any
action would disturb your mind, you should stay away from that. Then
the mind is in its natural, pure, calm state. So the question here
is not how to calm the mind, but how to stay away from disturbing
the mind. If left alone, the mind is peaceful. It’s almost like a
bowl of water. You don’t have to make the water do something to be
calm. Simply, don’t shake it, don’t throw something into it. If you
leave it alone, it will retain its own natural tranquility. The mind
is exactly like that.
“God bless you. Om Shanthi,
Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Training
the Mind”
“It is important to take care of the body, to
keep it in good shape. But the most important part is the mind,
because as you think, so you become. Both you and your body will
develop according to the thoughts in your mind. Both must be brought
under your control with discipline and training in the right way. Of
course, people find it hard to tame the mind. So, take the gross
mind—which is the body—and tame it first. Through asanas, discipline
the body. Then tame the vital body with the breath, and sense
control. Thus you will tame the mind. Ultimately, the aim is to
control the mind. The mind has to be approached by all means, by all
means.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“The Best
Ambition”
“A contented person feels, ‘God, whatever comes, let
it come. You are the giver. You are the taker. If You decide not to
give, even if I beg, borrow, steal, or cry, I am not going to get
it.’ It doesn’t mean that you should just sit like a rock doing
nothing. You still have to do. But just do what is presented to you.
This minute if a job is given to you, do it wholeheartedly, without
worrying about tomorrow or yesterday. Be in the golden present. Then
the contentment is there. The peace of mind is there. The
tranquility is there. You may ask, ‘Shouldn’t I have an ambition?’
Yes, you should have an ambition. What is the biggest and the best
ambition? To find a way not to lose your peace.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Um
verdaddeiro discípulo”
“Gurus can be found anywhere and everywhere. Just
simply turn to the Yellow Pages and see how many gurus you can find.
But it is hard to find a good student. Studentship is the most
important. A true disciple is one who is very keen in learning how
to get liberated, how to get released from all this turmoil. Who
will look for that? The one who got bound by everything. Otherwise,
why should he or she even be looking for liberation? We try to use
our little, finite intelligence to make our lives happy. We want to
achieve this and acquire that. Ultimately, we find that such
happiness is only temporary. When you begin to look for the
permanent happiness, that is when you become a true seeker.
"Busque
equilíbrio"
O que é Yoga?
Equanimidade.
O propósito do Yoga
é restaurar este equilíbrio e mantê-lo. Isto começa no corpo, pois é
trabalhamos o corpo. Busque o equilíbrio em seu corpo posicionando-o
em diferentes ásanas, tornando-o mais relaxado, livrando-o de todas
as toxinas acumuladas.
equanimidade.
“The
Healer Within”
“Actually, you don't have to do anything to heal the
body and mind. If you don't interfere, the body and mind will heal
themselves. There is a healer within everybody. We don't have to do
anything to get the positive things. When we stop doing the negative
things, the good happens by itself. We disturb and drain the body
and mind too much. We waste so much energy-overdoing, oversleeping,
overeating, over-talking. That drains you completely, so you lose
your immunity. The mind over-thinks and that leads to anxiety, worry,
fear. Learn to relax. That is the yogic way, nature's way. Not to
overindulge in anything. That way, you can heal yourself well.
“God bless
you.
Ele o afinará e tocará a música.
Você não precisa se preocupar com nada. Eu estou lhe ensinado o
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“The
Yoga of Wisdom”
“Jnana Yoga is the Yoga of wisdom. Who is a wise
person? The one who knows his or her true nature. Jnana Yoga teaches
that: ‘I am the Spirit, I am a spark of the Divine. I am using my
body and mind in my day‑to‑day life. They are my instruments. They
are given to me and I am using them.’ So, whatever you do, have the
attitude, ‘I am doing everything with the help of the body and mind
for the benefit of all,’ and at the same time know that others are
also functioning through their bodies and minds. Then you get the
equal vision that everybody is potentially Divine. We are all the
same in spirit, but we differ in body and mind. And we serve each
other that way. Then you are applying Jnana Yoga in your day‑to‑day
life.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“A Wakeful
Sleep”
“Enlightenment means waking up to the knowledge that
you are the master, you are the prime force that seems to be moving
the body and mind. When we dream we often say, ‘Oh, I am only
dreaming.’ You are dreaming, and at the same time you are awake
because you know that you are dreaming. That is how the scriptures
describe enlightenment: it is a wakeful sleep. When you really
understand your true nature, it will happen. Then you see the whole
world as a dream. But that doesn’t mean immediately you just laugh
at everything and do nothing. You cannot say, ‘I am only dreaming.’
You are still in the world, you still have a body and mind, so while
you are in Rome, behave like a Roman.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

This
week’s Words of Wisdom
is dedicated to the memory of beloved Swami
Turiyasangitananda (also known as Alice Coltrane, pictured above
with Sri Gurudev on the banks of the Ganges River in India, 1970),
1937-2007, with deepest love, respect and prayers from
Satchidananda Ashram and the entire Integral Yoga organization.
“Tune Yourself to
the Higher Music”
“The mind is like a radio. To
receive the music from outside, the radio must tune itself to that
frequency. If the transmitting station produces music at 88
megahertz, the radio should also tune itself to 88 megahertz, and
then the reception will be perfect. That is what you call
attunement. In the same way, to understand the pure God, we have
to make our mind pure and tune our mind to God’s wavelength. This
is the purpose of every religion. This is the goal of Yoga: to
make the mind perfect and tune it to the higher music.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“The Power of the Mind”
“Suppose somebody looks at you and says, ‘Hey,
how come you seem to be super happy today?’ What does that person see?
Does the person see your mind? How does he or she know that you are
happy? It shows in your body. That means the happiness of the mind
immediately is reflected in the body. That is the proof. The same way,
if you are unhappy you may be asked, ‘What's wrong with you? You don’t
seem to be happy today.’ So that means every mood immediately gets
reflected in the body. Every thought has a say over every molecule of
the body. Even though we see the change more visibly in the face, that
doesn’t mean other parts of the body are not changed. From head to foot
you change. There’s no doubt about it. That is the power of mind.
“God bless you.
Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Happy New Year”
“How do you find
peace and happiness in your life? By living a dedicated life.
“If you make your life a
dedicated one, you will have unending peace. To quote the Bhagavad
Gita, ‘Tyagat shantir anantaram.’ Only with Tyaga—only
by leading a dedicated life, do you have unending peace. In this New
Year, may you experience peace and joy in your life. Live as good yogis
and set examples for others. Let all others be inspired by your life.
Don’t use your words. Things are easily said, but hardly done. Instead,
let humanity see in you the beauty of a living a dedicated life. May God
bless you with that peaceful, joyful life.”
“God bless you.
Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Happy Hanukkah and Christmas”
“During
these beautiful occasions like Hanukkah and Christmas, let us make a
re-affirmation to lead a life filled with love. That will take care of
everything else. The best celebration of these holy days is to celebrate
the teachings in your life. What does Judaism teach us, what did Jesus
say? These celebrations, these holy days are here to remind us of the
teaching behind them: ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself;’ ‘Do unto others as
you would wish them to do unto you;’ ‘Seek the Kingdom first and all
else will be added unto you.’ If you feel that these teachings will
benefit your life, then apply them. If tomorrow morning when you wake
you are a little different person, a little better person, with a little
more peaceful mind, then you really have celebrated Christmas and
Hanukkah.
“God bless you.
Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Refine the Body and
Mind”
“Babies
do not make distinctions between rich and poor, friend and enemy. You
see such equal vision in babies. That equal vision is what you call
Yoga. Whoever lives with that kind of vision is called a divine person,
a holy person. Because God has equal vision. God loves everybody,
including the person who goes and demolishes the church or temple. So
the sign of divine life or Yoga is equal vision. When we were babies, we
were fine, then we got defined and what
should we do now? We should rise above these definitions. Whoever has
done that is called a refined person. That is the purpose of all the
religions. All our practices, all our Yoga, all our daily actions should
help us in refining our bodies and minds.
“God
bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“See the Good”
“As
you think, so you become. So if you are going to become that, shouldn’t
you think nice things? If you have ugly thoughts, what would you become?
Imagine that somebody is thinking constantly of a monkey. What will that
person become? You won’t even see him or her on the ground, but in a
tree. That’s why the Chinese monkeys advise us to think no evil, see no
evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Because if you keep on thinking bad
thoughts, you will become bad. Even among your friends and the people
around you, don’t always think of the bad side. Everybody is a mixture
of good and bad. Always appreciate the good side, and you will become
good. Ultimately we all want to become better people.
“God bless
you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Develop Divine Vibrations
Within”
“Every
sound has a vibration, every vibration its own effect. Various sounds
are used in the nursery, in the monastery, on the battlefield. Just like
any other force of nature, sound, too, can
be used for good or bad. As spiritual people, we use sound to elevate
the mind and to bring out the divine qualities. Repetition of holy names
is found in almost every religion--in churches, temples, synagogues,
mosques. Thousands of years ago, yogis had also realized the importance
of sound. They called those sounds ‘mantras.’ A mantra is a holy name or
word with divine vibrations. You can develop such vibrations in yourself
also. Simply select one sound and repeat it constantly. Just be sure
that it is a holy sound, a sound that will be uplifting for you and for
all humanity.
“God
bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Adapt,
Adjust, Accommodate”
“My Guru,
Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj, used to say that the entire teaching of Yoga
boils down to one thing. If you want to live in the world peacefully,
‘Adapt, Adjust, Accommodate, Bear Insult, Bear Injury, this is the
Highest Sadhana,’ he says. If anybody injures you, bear it. If anybody
insults you, bear it. It is not an easy thing. We can talk a lot about
philosophy–-Raja Yoga, the Self, Kundalini Yoga, everything. But if
anybody spits at your face, can you smile at him? That is the highest
sadhana. Just say, ‘Ah, wonderful, you seem to have found a nice
spittoon! It is my face? Very good.’ Smile at him, show him that you are
a real Yogi. But it is very difficult, no doubt.
“God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“When the Student is Ready”
“Even if I
have the capacity to change you, I will not. I will help you to change
yourself. Then you will say, ‘I did it!’ You must earn it by your own
efforts, because if something is simply handed to you, you won’t
appreciate the value of it. That is why the scriptures say, ‘Ask, and it
shall be given.’ Are they stingy then? No. Simply, they are waiting for
you to be ready and willing to receive, so they wait for you to ask. By
that asking you are saying, ‘I’m hungry, feed me.’ In India we have a
similar saying, ‘When the student is ready, the Guru appears.’ When you
are really ready--when you are wanting, seeking, asking--you won’t even
need a particular Guru; you can learn from anything and everything in
the universe. All that will come, but only when you are ready.
“God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Know the Truth”
“The wise people
tell us to know the truth, know the truth, know the truth. But, of
course, if everybody were to know the truth, the fun would be lost. So,
at least a few should be ignorant of it. But ultimately, one day or
another, everyone has to realize the truth. When you have suffered
enough by taking everything on your shoulders, then you say: ‘I am
tired of it all. I don’t want to do anything. I’m sick
and tired, sick and tired.’ At that point, you throw up your hands
and simply say, ‘God, do whatever You want. It’s none of my business.
You created the world, You run it. In fact, You are already running it.
Why should I worry about anything?’ When you realize that, you will have
realized the truth.”
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“The Real Pilgrimage”
“People make
many ‘pilgrimages’ nowadays: They book the plane ticket, book the hotel,
drive up to the temple and say ‘Hello God, how are You?’ And then, they
come back home. This is not the real pilgrimage. A real pilgrimage will
teach you that nothing is going to help you. Only God. That’s
why pilgrimages are mostly taken in difficult, hard to reach places. But
you don’t have to go on this kind of pilgrimage. You can gain the same
physical and mental cleanliness right where you are. That is probably
one of the reasons we practice Yoga. Through asana, we clean the
physical body; through pranayama, we clean the vital body; through
meditation, the mental body is cleaned. So, instead of going to Mount
Kailash as a pilgrimage, take Yoga as a pilgrimage and clean up
everything. When you are perfectly clean, your body and mind will
reflect the Inner Light.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Seek
the Kingdom of God”
“Maintain your
peace at all costs. When I say ‘at all costs’ I mean that. At all costs
maintain your peace. You can renounce anything and everything, but not
your peace. When you are peaceful, everything and everyone want to be
with you. Everything likes a peaceful person: Money likes the peaceful
person, position likes the peaceful person, power likes the peaceful
person. They all come to you whether you want it or not because they
love to be with you. Seek that kingdom of no want. The Bible says, ‘Seek
first the Kingdom of God, and everything else will be added unto you.’
Seek that Kingdom of God. That’s your first and foremost duty. If you’ve
done that, everything else will be simply added unto you. The Kingdom of
God is within you. That Kingdom is in the form of peace. So, may God
bless us with that kind of supreme, supreme, supreme peace.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Stop
Running After Things”
“What do you
need? What are you looking for? Your ultimate aim behind everything is
to find happiness. Ask anybody, ‘Why are you doing this and that?’ They
will reply, ‘I just want to be happy.’ If you deeply analyze, you will
soon find out that nothing from the outside is going to make you happy.
Nothing brings you peace. When you get something you are happy. But that’s
only momentary, because when you get something the next minute you don’t
want to lose it. You’re worried about it--getting and losing, happiness
and unhappiness. Then you decide, ‘I’m not going to run after anything.
Because whatever I run after makes me miserable later on.’ The moment
you decide to stop running after things, you will find complete joy in
your life. You will realize that you are happy. You are happiness
personified.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
“Losing
Weight”
“Do you feel
comfortable, happy and healthy in your body? If so, then, forget about
the weight. Thinking constantly, ‘I must lose weight, lose weight, lose
weight’ is more of a problem than the weight itself. But, if you don’t
feel comfortable, then there is something wrong. You need Yoga but Yoga
alone will not help much. You must know how to eat. Eating
itself is a Yoga. You should realize that you have a complete, good set
of teeth. Chewing well is important. That’s why I often say, eat your
liquids, drink your solids. So, learning how to eat well, chew well,
also is important. A Yogi should know that. And, of course, what to eat.
What is the natural food for our body? Our body is made for vegetarian
food. So eat well, eat the proper food, chew well, digest well, and then
don’t worry about the rest. That is more important than constantly
thinking about the weight.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Challenges are Necessary”
“Challenges are
given to you to bring out your inborn capabilities. The monkey mind is
given to you to see how you can train it and how you can make use of it
for the service of others. If it’s already a nice, well-trained,
beautiful mind, you don’t have the opportunity to show your capacity. So
it’s purposely given to you that way. ‘Here is a wild monkey. Tame it!’
That’s Nature’s way of giving challenges. Life is filled with challenges.
And only by challenges can you bring out your strength, your
intelligence, your capacity. We should never get disheartened by the
challenges. Necessity is the mother of invention. Challenges are
necessary to bring out your capabilities.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Accept Everything”
“Simply be at peace. Whatever has to happen will happen. That’s why I always say
there is one very good mantra to always repeat: acceptance, acceptance,
acceptance. Accept everything that comes your way as God-given. If it is
pleasure, accept it. If it is pain, accept it. Profit, accept it. Loss, accept
it. That doesn’t mean that you should not think of doing or wanting something.
But, have your wants under one condition: they should be approved by the Higher
Will, by God. ‘If God approves, I will have it. If not, I won’t.’ Then, either
way, your peace is maintained. By accepting everything, the great benefit is
that you don’t disturb your peace. You are always in peace. That is what real
Yoga is. That is what real spiritual attainment is. That’s what you call
enlightenment.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“The Right Work”
“The
best way to know whether you are doing the right work is to ask yourself, ‘Did
anything or anybody get benefit from my work?’ Then it is the right work.
Somebody or something should benefit. It’s not always people: people or animals
or birds or fish, even inanimate things. Simply ask yourself, ‘By my work did
anybody get even the slightest benefit?’ If the answer is yes, you are doing the
right work. Then their joy will be your joy also. The people who benefit by your
work will be happy and that happiness will come to you. You will see their happy
faces. You will enjoy what you are doing. But if you are doing things only for
yourself, then certainly it will get boring after some time. Selfish people can
never be happy always, no. They get bored very soon. So the real joy in life is
to live a useful life, a serviceful life.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Cosmic Beauty”
“What
makes the mind dirty? All the dirty thoughts. Because the mind is nothing but a
bunch of thoughts. When the thoughts are clean, the mind is clean. When the
thoughts are ugly with jealousy, hatred, or vengeance, the mind becomes that.
And a dirty mind makes a dirty body. Yes, the minute you see someone you say,
‘Look at that crook.’ Because you see the person’s face which shows their
crooked mind. Your thoughts are expressed in your body. ‘Ah, look at that happy
baby.’ When the mind is happy, the face looks happy. When the mind is sad, the
face looks sad. So everything that you think is transformed into your body. Even
to look beautiful, you don’t need makeup. Don’t waste your money on cosmetic
beauty. Make your mind beautiful and then, without any cosmetic beauty, you will
have cosmic beauty.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“The Golden Now”
“Forget
about the past or the future. Live in this present time and you will have a
happy journey. Don’t worry about the past; don’t dream about the future. Think
of the golden present, this golden moment. A moment is also a fraction of time.
Probably the best thing is the golden now, the eternal now. Now is the time.
Haven’t you heard the proverb, ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.’ So,
enjoy the golden now, now, now. Here and now, here and now. Now here. Nowhere to
go. Be in the golden now.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“The Best Remedy”
“When
you are disturbed, agitated, anxious or any have problem in the mind, simply
take a few slow deep breaths, and you can see how it calms you. That is the best
remedy for calming down. It takes care of the physical and mental aspects, and
also, what is in between the physical and mental: the vital body. Our bodies are
graduated, divided into five bodies--in Sanskrit, the Pancha Kosha. Our
body is not just one body, it’s five bodies put together. Like an undershirt, a
shirt, an overshirt, a coat and an overcoat. The overcoat is called the physical
body. The next is the vital body, the breath body. The third is the mental body,
mind body. The fourth is the intellectual body, the fifth is the blissful body.
Everything should be kept clean, neat and tidy. And, there’s no better remedy
for disturbances of any of the bodies than pranayama.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Accept the Changes”
“The
soul never dies, and the body also never dies, it just changes its name and form.
So you are always that undying soul. So what should we do? Accept the changes.
The problem comes only when we deny the changes. Can we always be young? No.
Nature’s way is that nothing is permanent, all is constantly changing. If there
is one quality of nature, it is that it is ever-changing. But what changes?
There is One that is never-changing. So the One is permanent, the changes are
impermanent. Realize the Permanent, enjoy the impermanent. Realize the
never-changing, enjoy the ever-changing. Both are necessary.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“The World Becomes Heaven”
“You
may question, ‘If the world is going to be that painful, why should God have
created the world? Did He want me to constantly go through pain?’ No. He created
the world for you to go through the obstructions, face them, learn how to
overcome them. So, ponder, ‘The problems I have, did the world give them to me?’
If you think well, you should know, ‘The world is not there to give me pain. I
caused my pain. I closed my eyes and went and knocked into the wall and I bumped
my head. The wall was not interested in giving me a bump. It’s my wrong
connection with it.’ When you realize that, you know how to deal with the world.
You know how to enjoy the world. Then the world becomes a heaven for you.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Good Deeds”
“Gurudev Sivanandaji used to say that even when you walk on the road and if you
see a banana peel, take it and throw it away. You have saved somebody’s head.
Because somebody might step on it and slip and fall down, you have done a great
service. If you see a broken glass piece, take it out and put it somewhere.
Anybody can do this. You don’t have to be multi-millionaire to do service or
charity to others. Our life should be like that. Even in the Scout book they
have, ‘How many good deeds did you do today?’ Is it not so? Good deeds. Every
one of us should have a notebook like that. Before you retire each day you
should ask yourself, ‘How many good deeds?’
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
 “A
Jivanmukta is a soul liberated from the bondage of the mind. To
that soul, everything is fun, everything is a show, nothing is a
surprise. If the Jivanmukta walks through a cemetery and all of
a sudden a grave opens and a dead body gets up and walks, to him it is
not a surprise. If he walks down the street during midday, and all of a
sudden the sun disappears and the moon appears, it’s no surprise. A Jivanmukta
doesn’t worry about the past, doesn’t worry about the future.
He just watches the One who is Eternally Present. He won’t say,
‘This is good; this is bad.’ He will watch it with a witnessing
attitude. If we get that, we will never have to praise anybody or blame
anybody. We will just watch everything peacefully.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Nothing Dies”
“No
one dies; nothing dies. Haven’t you heard people saying, ‘Oh, he is
dead and gone’? What does that mean? If he is dead, how can he go? One
that exists, always exists. Nothing can be destroyed, only the names and
forms are destroyed or changed. Because it is all God’s Image. You are
the Spirit. You change bodies to fulfill your desires, but the Spirit
never dies. Everything is created in the Image of God, and God never
dies, so we never die. Even the body never dies; it simply changes form.
It is composed of elements, and then they decompose. They go back to
their source.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“Witness the Mind”
“You
are never happy or unhappy. You are the same always. You are God’s
image. So, get rid of that ‘I’ business, which comes from the mind.
Stay above that, and watch the show. Even in meditation, if your mind
runs here and there, watch it, enjoy the show. A great saint,
Thaimanuvar, says that mind is a monkey, and that too, not a simple
monkey--a drunken monkey. And not only a drunken monkey, but a drunken
monkey bitten by a scorpion. Imagine the condition of the mind! How on
earth are you going to quiet the mind? It is impossible. So, leave it
alone; watch the show. Instead of trying to do something to the mind,
watch it. If you know yourself as the Witness of the mind, that is
Self-Realization.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”

“It’s All God’s Story”
“If
you see everything as God’s story, why should you worry about anything?
It’s all God’s: pleasure, pain, profit, loss; everything is God’s.
A story should have everything in it, not only one aspect. Have you ever
seen a movie where everyone is always happy? No. Wherever there is a
hero, there is a villain also. Pleasure and pain are two sides of the
same coin. We have to have both--positive and negative. It is the mind
that says, ‘I am happy,’ or ‘I am unhappy.’ As pure Self you
don’t say anything. You are just a Witness. If you see yourself as
mind, then you go through all the troubles within the story. To
experience the One behind the many, we have to realize the Self.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
Em Português:
Meditar
descansa, você desejará aprender a meditar. Eu me sinto feliz quando
Meditar é acalmar a mente,
organiza-la.

Tente conhecer o conhecedor. Ver
aquele que tudo vê. Ouvir aquele que tudo ouve.
Que
Deus te abençoe.
Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
Semana de 10/10 à 17/10
“If
anybody does something bad to you, you should return something good to
them. That’s what you call being a cultured person. Saint
Thiruvalluvar says, ‘If somebody hurts you, do something nice to them.’
Let them feel guilty about it. They will think, ‘Did I hurt this nice
person? I shouldn’t have done that.’ See? If you return good for the
hurt, that’s the best way to teach such people a lesson. It will put
them to shame. If somebody hurts you, love them. To be able to do that,
you must be a good yogi. Learning never to get offended by anybody is
Yoga practice.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
Semana de 02/10 à 09/10/2005
“God
has given us these restless minds. But you don’t have to worry so much
about the mind. Let it play. It is all a play, a mental play. Watch the
show. The mind is like a screen--it reflects all kinds of images. When
you go to a cinema, you see many kinds of shows: good, bad, violent,
silly. You watch everything. It’s fun. The same way, you should watch
your own mind putting on a show and have fun watching it. This is a very
important point. You have to always step back from the mind and watch
it. Be the witness always and you will always enjoy the show.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
Semana de 25/09 à 02/10/05
“We can learn a
lot from a child. Why? Because a child has a pure heart. The child doesn’t
get agitated over anything. A child just smiles so easily, so beautifully.
How beautiful the face of a child is. It is Divine. It glows without any
make-up. Children don’t need any make-up because their hearts are clean
and their faces show it. Their faces are the expression of their pure
hearts. But unfortunately, we don’t stay like that. Somehow we get
spoiled. The mind gets all mixed up, and the beauty is gone. Then you have
to find the beauty from outside, through cosmetic beauty. The child has
Cosmic beauty. How long can you live with only this cosmetic beauty? It is
not permanent, so make your mind like a child’s and you will again
reflect that Cosmic beauty.
God bless you. Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi.”
